Mornings and I don’t mix. Getting out the door on time in the morning is a challenge. This school year is going to be different, though, because stress-free mornings are how I want us to start the day.
For our mornings to be a success, I had to make some serious hacks to our routine. After some digging around online, I found recurring tips that sounded perfect for my family and me. I hope the following five hacks can be of help to your family, as well.
5 Hacks Stress-Free Mornings
1. Prepare for the following morning the night before.
The more you can do the night before, the better. This frees up more time for the things that have to get done in the morning. Make lunches, set out clothes and backpacks, and take care of baths or showers in the evenings.
2. No television or electronics before the kids are completely ready.
If you want to really see your kids hustle in the morning, give them an incentive! If they know that they don’t get screen time until they are ready, they won’t waste any time.
3. Get yourself up and ready before waking the kids.
Less people fighting for bathroom time is always a plus in my household of six! There is always less chaos when everyone isn’t trying to do the same thing at the same time. And the possibility of getting to drink your coffee while it’s hot is a great bonus!
4. Set a timer for each task.
Some children love to take their sweet time in the mornings. Set a timer for breakfast, bathroom time, and getting dressed to keep kids moving quickly. This can even be a fun game for the kids. Plus, less constant reminders and nagging from mom is a win for everyone!
5. Listen to music.
Music is a great motivational tool. If you play upbeat, happy tunes it can be energizing and uplifting.
Mornings don’t have to be miserable
So far, mornings this school year have been smooth sailing for my family and me! I have personally implemented several of these hacks with great results! My two favorites that I have personally found to be most successful for us are numbers one and three.
Preparing for the following day the night before frees up so much time in the mornings. This equates to less scrambling around to get everything done and out the door. Less rushing equals less stress, and we can all use less stress, especially in the mornings!
Getting myself up and ready before waking the kids has also made a positive difference in our mornings. It gives me time to wake up, have coffee, and get ready in the bathroom in peace. There is less competition for the bathroom, and more time for breakfast.
I hope some (or all of these) hacks help reduce morning stress for your family as well. Let us know in the comments if you have used any of these, or other hacks you’ve tried with success.
