My kids and I love to explore the many tea houses in Sonoma County. Whether you want to just share a cozy cup of tea together or relish in the tradition of a full high tea, I’ve got you covered with plenty of tea house recommendations right here in Sonoma County.
6988 McKinley Street, Sebastopol
What better pairing exists than tea and chocolate? Tea and more chocolate (and some wine for later)! This spot boasts an abundance of tea choices, delicious homemade baked goods, and award-winning chocolates. While prices aren’t cheap, Infusions draws an unusual cast of West County characters through its doors. In my book, the excellent people watching offsets the price of admission.
330 South Main Street, Sebastopol
This is a magical tea house, located in a charmingly decorated, light-filled Victorian house. Their plant-based menu makes it an ideal pick for vegans and vegetarians. But don’t be turned off if you like meat in your pasties. My son, who frequently proclaims, “I like vegetables, I just don’t want to eat them every day,” adores tea time at Muir’s. So come and warm yourself by the fireplace, and enjoy a cup of Chocolate Orange Creamsicle or Lime Chiffon (our favorites). Muir’s also features a full calendar of popular events, including the annual Harry Potter Tea, Jane Austen Birthday Weekend, Secret Garden Tea, and Teddy Bear Tea.
6821 Laguna Park Way, Sebastopol
This tea house has been serving West County High Tea to many happy customers since 2010. They offer tea service Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. If you don’t want a full-service high tea you can also enjoy a traditional cream tea. From the raspberry preserves, organic Meyer lemon curd, and clotted cream, everything is homemade.
109 North Street, Healdsburg
Cream and sugar aren’t your thing? Then look no further than this gem, which opened in 2016. Part tea house, part spa, The Taste of Tea imports teas from China, Japan and Taiwan. Learn how tea plays a part in Asian culture, enjoy a tea foot soak in the relaxation room, savor a pot of tea at the tasting bar, and slurp down a bowl of their top-selling ramen in the lounge. Another element you won’t find anywhere else – they cleanse all the water used in the tea house with gemstones. So come and feel like royalty for the day!
212 Second Street, Petaluma
Stop by this cozy spot to enjoy a cup of tea and hear some tunes by Aldo Garibaldi, the Real Petaluma Piano Man. He plays there several mornings each week. Tea is also available for purchase.
733 4th Street, Santa Rosa
Aside from the impeccable service and delightful fare, my son and I also enjoy the decor, which spans from Victorian finery to British Kitsch. A cabinet next to our table featured mugs with the busts of Henry the Eighth and his seven wives. “Seven wives?” my son asked. “Did any of them die?” Who knew a visit to Tudor Rose would turn into a history lesson, enjoyed over tea sandwiches? Good thing they provided an endless pot of tea, because that one took awhile to explain. From the High Tea Selections, we enthusiastically recommend the Mary Poppins Tea for children and the Catherine of Aragon for parents (your day will end better than hers, trust me). Also – Date Night Alert! Tudor Rose hosts popular Murder Mystery Dinner Theater evenings several times a year. They’re a blast, and not just because my table won.
Enjoy your tea house adventures, and let me know which place(s) you and your kids enjoyed the most!
