Christmas music is probably my favorite part about the Christmas season (well, aside from all the baking). There are just so many great Christmas songs to listen to. While I love Christmas music by NSYNC, Kelly Clarkson, and Pentatonix, sometimes I want something more low key. Music that I can play while I read or during Christmas dinner – songs that aren’t overpowering or that drown out your thoughts or conversation. And these albums are just that.
7 Soothing Christmas Music Albums
to Enjoy on Christmas
A Charlie Brown Christmas by Vince Guaraldi Trio
This is a Christmas album I could (and do) listen to all year long. The leading intro of “O Tannenbaum,” is so peaceful, and even the upbeat songs “Skating” and “Linus and Lucy” don’t pull focus from conversations. It is one of the most perfect Christmas music albums ever released and should definitely be enjoyed at your Christmas celebration.
Simply Christmas by Leslie Odom, Jr.
This man has the voice of an angel, and he is so calming to listen to. All of the songs feature his soothing vocals set against the mellow tones from the piano, bass, and percussion. If you are a fan of Jazz-inspired Christmas music, then this is the album for you.
Christmas Piano by Jeff Victor
Ok, so I bought this album on a whim at Target (I can’t resist their Christmas music display!) in 2003. Therefore, I’m not sure if it’s still available. However, the piano is truly the only instrument featured on the album and it’s incredibly peaceful. If you can find a Christmas album that lists Jeff Victor as the pianist, get it. You won’t be disappointed.
Christmas with The Cambridge Singers by John Rutter and The Cambridge Singers
I was first introduced to The Cambridge Singers while singing in my church choir growing up. They are an absolutely phenomenal choral group, and their songs make your cares melt away. My absolute favorite song on the album is “What Sweeter Music,” and if you give it a listen, you’ll see why.
The Narada Nutcracker by Narada
I’ve been listening to this Christmas album since I was a kid. It’s one of my all-time favorite Nutcracker recordings, and it even makes wrapping presents enjoyable. Granted, I love songs from The Nutcracker whether performed by instruments or (amazing) vocalists. This album is a treasure, though, and it deserves a place in every Christmas music collection.
The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole
I know that everyone and their mother knows Nat King Cole’s version of “The Christmas Song (Merry Christmas to You).” There are so many other wonderful songs on this album, though! It’s quintessential Christmas music to play while trimming the tree or preparing hors d’oeuvres on Christmas Eve.
Joy to the World by John Williams and The Boston Pops Orchestra
This album takes me back to Christmases at my Grandma’s, since we always played it on Christmas morning. It is a gem of a Christmas album for two reasons, in my opinion. Not only does this album contain some of the songs that John Williams composed for the beloved Christmas movie Home Alone, but it also has one of the best renditions of “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas,” performed by the incomparable Robin Williams. Truly a Christmas music album for everyone!
