Patriotic Style: How to Shine Bright this Fourth of July

Every July 4th, we remember the day when the original 13 colonies claimed their independence from England and eventually formed the United States of America. To celebrate, we plan BBQs and attend fun community events, filled with laughter, games, and delicious food. And if you can last till the evening, a spectacular fireworks display will paint the night’s sky and remind us of our pride and unity with one another. So what are you going to wear for America’s Birthday? Bring on the red, white, and blue! Bring on the stars and stripes! Let’s party like it’s 1776 in true patriotic style!

Beach Day to Fireworks Above the Bay

Fourth of July Weekend is a perfect chance to head to the beach. When you’re in the sun all day, you’ll want to keep your outfit simple. Running around with the kids requires a comfortable pair of denim shorts, like my new favorite mid-rise pair from Universal Thread at Target. Add subtle hints of patriotic style, like a star-studded tank or a red-striped tee. And make sure you have a great pair of sandals like this style from Birkenstock to easily slip on and off if you’re brave enough to dip your feet into the water. Finally, top this outfit off with a lace-trimmed ruana, which is an essential Summer-time layering piece. As you prepare to watch the fireworks over Bodega Bay, grab the extra sweatshirts and blankets that you’ve packed in your extra-large straw tote. Then cuddle up with your kiddos and enjoy your evening under the stars.

Hometown Parade to BBQ With Friends

Whether you’re marching in the parade or cheering on the sidelines in your lawn chair, 4th of July Parades embody the patriotic style and spirit of this important holiday. A perfect pair of white jeans, like my faves from Articles of Society, will walk you from the parade route to your best friend’s backyard BBQ. They’re super soft and lightweight. You’ll want to make sure your feet are comfy all day in these Dr. Scholl’s chambray slides. And since statement sleeves are the new statement detail of the year (Don’t worry… I still love you, statement necklaces), try this Michael Stars off-the-shoulder top with bell sleeves, which comes in red, white, or blue.

County Fair to Fireworks From the Ferris Wheel

Gingham is my all-time favorite pattern for Summer. It’s fun, timeless, and found in a variety of styles from blouses to rompers and dresses. But the style trend I’m loving this Summer is the jumpsuit (it’s basically a romper married to a midi dress… with pockets!) And if you’re a fan of classic style, kick on a pair Original Champion Keds. They’re not only breathable, but also have Ortholite in-soles. As a friendly reminder, since you’ll be at the fairgrounds all day, don’t forget your sunscreen. And protect your head with a Panama hat. Finally, keep all your things organized with the “it bag” of the season – a circle basket bag.

Family Dinner Date to A Night at the Symphony

If you aren’t able to participate in daytime July 4th festivities, start the evening with a family date night at your favorite BBQ joint. Then head over to a spectacular Santa Rosa Symphony concert and fireworks display at the Green Music Center. Stay comfy all night long in a basic solid-colored swing dress. This dress style is my favorite because you can easily dress it up or down. Glam up your outfit with metallic espadrille wedges and a fun star-print clutch like this one by Clare V. As an alternative to the classic denim jacket, try a white twill jacket to help you stay warm while you enjoy the show in patriotic style.
