To my Daughter Haven,
Three little words
You are enough. If everything else I say to you is forgotten, as long as you remember these three little words, I know you’ll be ok.
Love who you are. Every single part. Embrace your uniqueness, do not try to hide it. Be you, not who others want you to be.
Know your strength. You are capable of anything as long as you believe it. Never underestimate yourself.
Kindness + gratitude = natural beauty
Strive for integrity, never vanity. Who you are on the inside will always shine on the outside. When you are genuine and practice gratitude and acceptance, beauty comes naturally.
You are always worthy
Sometimes, seeing our own worth is the hardest part of living. We live in a world that likes to knock us down. We are told our worth depends on so many variables. These messages only have as much power as we give them.
Always remember that your worth in this world is like a boulder. It is huge, and doesn’t change based on external, or internal factors. It will be there until the end of time.
I hope you start out with the confidence that I’m still searching for
I hope that confidence will guide you through life. When you live with confidence you live a life of independence. A life of authenticity, purpose, and fulfillment.
As your Mother who is still figuring out how to implement all of this into her own life at 38, I really hope I instill at least half of it into yours before you even reach adulthood. Remembering those three powerful words is really the shorthand version of all the rest.
You are enough
You were born that way, and you will remain that way always. The hard part is believing it to be true, as it’s so easy to get entangled in our culture of never enough. Don’t let it win! Tattoo those three little words into your skin (as I did) if you have to! Just don’t ever forget them, because my sweet and perfect Haven, you are enough!
